today
I woke up this morning hoping to get a lot of to do's crossed off my list BUT ended up in the children's hospital for most of the day. Ruby has been unwell for more than a week and today when the stomach cramps started up again I decided to take her to the hospital to be checked. She is fine, thankfully, just a little constipated. So now...guess who will be staying up late getting their projects done?

scenes from my day
Lovin' my uggies although they are getting quite old, but still so deliciously warm
Drawing Mr Potato Head when I should be doing my illustration exercise due on Monday, but still haven't figured out what to draw.

Live, laugh, love
Bought myself the new Frankie today...and also the new 2011 Frankie diary online. Fingers crossed the diary has more room than the uni ones, I barely have any room to write anything in it. I have to write my version of shorthand and when I try to read what I wrote I don't have a clue what I meant!
I needed a little 'pick me up' after taking mum to chemo. It is her second last one which she is so happy about. She has lost all her hair but fortunately not her eyebrows, we thought we would have to draw them on for her. I told her I would draw angry eyebrows which she giggled about. She is doing well but had a rather rough nurse today, but we laughed and joked about it all, the Chilean in us.

cinnamon snails
I am supposed to be reading today, but I've done everything but read. I thought I would cook some cinnamon snails, thinking to myself it will be nice to read with a nice aroma in the air. I made up the dough and left in the fridge while I cleaned up a little. I ended up cleaning the microwave, swept and mopped my dirty floors, cleaned the toilet and dusted! It is now 3pm and trying to get reading done while the kids are here will be hard. But the cinnamon snails were needed, fingers crossed I actually get to eat one.
I have tried other cinnamon snail recipes but this is the best one!

Cinnamon Snails
3 cups plain flour
pinch salt
2 tbsp sugar
250g butter
30g compressed yeast
1/2 cup lukewarm milk
3 egg-yolks
1. Cream yeast with 1 tsp of the sugar. Add lukewarm milk, let stand in warm place 5 minutes.
2. Sift flour, salt and remaining sugar into bowl; rub in butter until mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
3. Add egg-yolks to yeast mixture, beat with beater for 3 minutes. Add to flour mixture, mix to a soft dough. Wrap dough in aluminium foil, refrigerate several hours or overnight.
4. Remove from refrigerator half-an-hour before dough is to be used. Roll out dough onto lightly floured surface. Spread walnut filling evenly over dough.
5. Roll up carefully as for swiss roll. Slice roll into 12 even slices, place into greased paper lined tin. Cover with clean cloth, let rise in warm place 15-20 minutes.
6. Bake in hot oven 15 minutes, reduce heat to moderate; cook further 10 minutes or until golden brown. When cold, drizzle over prepared icing.
Walnut Filling:
125g walnuts
1 cup sugar
1 tbsp cinnamon
2 egg whites
1. Place finely chopped walnuts, sugar and cinnamon into bowl; mix well. Beat egg whites until soft peaks form, fold into walnut mixture.
Icing:
Place 3/4 cup sifted icing sugar and tsp butter in bowl; gradually beat in milk until icing is of pouring consistency. Stand bowl over a saucepan of simmering water. Stir constantly until icing is shiny.

compositions through colour
These are some paint samples I got from bunnings today for my illustration exercise due on Monday. Boy did I feel guilty walking out with these, I am not sure why, perhaps because I took so many.

can spring be far behind?
My Joshie got the job! YAY! I am happy for him but at the same time can't help but feel a little sad. I am happy he is becoming more independent and a responsible young man but it also means my grip has to loosen. It is his first job, then comes his first car, and then going off to uni...it is all happening so quickly! Where did the time go?
I stayed up till about 2am to finish off the presentation that I had to do today. I am relieved it is over and done with and let me just say just in case you don't know this yet. I hate working in groups.
It was such a lovely warm day today, very warm for a winter day. Spring is so close and I want some pretty flowers planted.
This is my little pathway in the backyard. I have been dreaming of planting some pig face along both sides. The only problem is our dog. He destroys everything, even the grass as you can see from the photo. He is very naughty, he has destroyed a kiwi plant, wisteria, jasmine, boysenberry. Everything.
I'm off to watch Nanny McPhee and the Big Bang and getting to bed early tonight. I'm so sleepy.

my week...so far
[+] I am so tired, I've just now stopped to have a little break before getting back into more reading for a 'group assignment' due on Thursday. Group is in inverted commas because it is all me...again!
[+] You can't tell from the photo but I am very sick girl, I have a very irritating dry cough and my head hurts at the end of the day from all the coughing :(
[+] Josh had an interview at McDonald's yesterday...my fingers and toes are crossed he gets it
[+] I've been searching everywhere for bainbridge board for next weeks illustrative exercise, and I finally found it 5 minutes from my uni *rolls eyes*
[+] I applied for work experience from an ad I found at uni, and Friday I have to go to pick up the pictures and meet them all...but it is all the way in Katoomba! Not sure how it will go but I am giving it a go.
[+] I am planning on making something really cute with these sheets. Can you guess what?

bee board
Guess who finally got her cupcake stand? MEEEEE!
You realise of course this means LOTS and LOTS of cupcake making ;)
I made a little photo studio in our back room today. I hung an old pink sheet on the wall and took most of the photos there, I started it too late though and ran out of light fairly quickly. The photos were processed with Night fate's free photoshop action...I love the colouring.
AND I finally got my Uni schedule up on my noticeboard...the board is kind of empty though :/ It is suffering a little from envy when viewing these gorgeous ones below.
Love 'em all!

keep calm
Making my bed very late in the evening, or at least 'starting' to :) I hate messiness but it seems that those around me don't really mind it. Eek! they all turned out like Andres. I love him but boy is he messy!

puppet making
No homework tonight...just some drawing and baking a banana bread.
OH and some puppet drawing. Doesn't it look like the woman has had some collagen injections? hee

city to surf
Still tired from Sunday's little trip to Bondi. We got up at 4:30am and left at 1:05pm! it was a LONG day. That truck full of newspapers are the newspapers we had to put in bags and hand out...there were so many. The good thing is we went to sizzler after :) bad thing is I am still exhausted, I have muscles sore that I didn't even know existed.

pink cupcakes
I had my youngest son with me today due to illness. Yes! on my free day. Why is it they get sick during my days off? hmm it is very suspicious I tell you! After a dose of panadol he was feeling a little better so I asked him if he wanted to make cupcakes with his momma. He agreed but I had run out of butter and couldn't find the recipe for the cupcakes..GRR so had to take him to the shops to stock up on a few ingredients. By the time we got home I quickly made some dinner as the other three would be home soon, and while that was cooking I started on the cupcakes but my little helper was feeling dizzy so I ended up preparing them on my own. (Mr Potato Head was no help) :P
I got these pretty pastel patty liners and I had a hard time deciding whether or not to use them. I kept thinking to myself 'they are just paper' but at the same time I couldn't bare to use them, they are so pretty. I was hoping to make a garland as featured here and here....ah well. I will have to get some more and try to making the garland another time.

scribbles
[+] Not great drawings, but I've always said I am not good at drawing. Now if you were to ask me to do a more complicated drawing then I would fail miserably. Included in the drawings are a few of my favourite things, I have plenty more, in fact I could name at least 20 but I thought I would keep it simple ;)
[+] I thought I would mention that this Sunday is the City to surf which I will be attending. Before you think I am running in it (I can barely make it to the corner), I along with many others will be handing out newspapers to passers by. We volunteer as a group to raise money for our pathfinders (a group that is very similar to scouts) the only problem is the we have to wake up super early. I have a hard time waking up at 7:30! The reason I am mentioning this is Andres and I are trying to play match makers for my baby sister and want to invite them both to come along. My fingers are crossed that they both go, they are both so shy.
[+] It is Andres birthday today! he turned 41 and felt like having 'bistec a lo pobre' which translated is poor man's steak. It is steak with fries and a fried egg. Very boring..I know, but it is what he wanted. I will make him a cake this weekend to celebrate his special day.

finally
Finally I am able to put my feet up. I have been on my feet all day. I went to buy some new shirts & black leggings for myself, but before I buy anything I go to all the shops to see who has the best price. It took me two hours! Got home to madly cook and clean the house. My feet are achey!
I also bought myself a kinder as I hadn't bought myself one in a long time. I love them.
Does anyone watch 'one born every minute' on SBS? last week this mum had her grown up teenager son with her while in labour...it put him off completely. This week there is a mad woman getting upset at her husband. It's hilarious! It starts at 8:30pm.

miss you
The right side of my bed is empty...until tomorrow night anyway. Thank goodness! I hardly slept at all last night, meanwhile Andres is sleeping in his car :/ He had to go to Tamworth & Tuncurry, what a shame I couldn't tag along.
